Building Your Superhero Squad

Now for those of you who don’t know.

I love superheros.

Now my definition of superheroes may be different than some.

Misfits. Divergents. People who don’t fit into the general norm or construct fed to them by society. And people with a magnificient superhero power or gift in which they make a world a better place!

In fact, many of the superheroes didn’t fit in, pretty much the baseline of all the superhero archetypes. But that’s what makes them so extra-ordinary. An ‘extra’ — above the ‘ordinary,’ human-being.

Now I don’t know if you’re familiar with the story of Fantastic 4? The story of heroes who weren’t the typical — I’m here to save the day type of hero! Maybe not even the best role models LOL

But what I love about the concept of Fantastic 4 is that they had each other. Each with their own unique gift, maybe even hated each other at times to the point of annoyance LOL. But they formed their own family and unique bond, stood by one another.

Let’s see.

You have Mister Fantastic — who could stretch his body!

Susan — aka Sue — later the invisible woman, who could disappear and project invisible force fields.

Johnny Storm — The Human Torch. Well that’s self explanatory and then my favourite…

Drum roll please.

The Thing! Ben Grimm — who is a bit grumpy but he kind tho. And has superhero strength, endurance and can change his shape into stone like flesh! Ka-fucking-Pow!

What I love most about these comics are the character’s backstory on how they came to be and just fucking owned it! How they transformed their unique gifts into something magnificent! I truly believe anybody can learn a gift if they really wanted to and can practice at it :)

So keeping this in mind. This brings about Superhero Rule #1 — How to Build your Superhero Squad and support one another.

And so I ask of you:

Who Are Your Fantastic 5?

Why 5?

Because we always hear:

You are the sum of the 5 people you hang out with the most.

You are always 5 people away from someone you really want to get to know.

And I see all too often people say to me, myself included, while holding up their hand to demonstrate, these are the number of people I truly trust in my lifetime.

I was at a party recently and shared this story with a friend of how I have my Superhero Squad of when shit hits the fan (let’s NOT look for a GIF for that lol.) But when shit hits the fan, they are the ones I turn to the most for support.

I also heard of a CEO who has a filter, again small group of friends, where they just data dump their shit into a text group. Meaning can you believe so and so said that? Or I don’t what could I say as a reply? I had a rough day. Or maybe you call a friend and say: Do you have the mind space for this? I need to cry for a bit.

I kid you not. True story.

Kind of like when I met an author talk about his amazing published short story called: The Crying Cafe. It’s where people go to a cafe to cry! I kid you not. I laughed my ass off inside. I thought:

A — What a unique concept! Very original.

B — Forget cat cafe when you have a crying cafe! And…

C — If you follow me on here you will begin to know. There was never really a C to begin with.

But I digress.

Sometimes I meditate before calls so I can re-center myself. Prepare myself. So I don’t data dump stuff onto friends. It’s called self regulation. Now don’t get me wrong. I have my moments too. But most times, we’re cool.

I also V-log. I record Future Self messages for my present self to reflect on. It’s all present really but I won’t get into that here.

Anyway, my present self will meditate and record something she wants insight on. I channel the message from future-self. And the next day when I go to watch the video I say, OMG — what great insight!

Or sometimes in the SAYING OF IT, the E-Motion (feelings in motion) move through my body and out, so it is released and no longer has to be said anymore or re-examined. You have now moved beyond that!

We all have it within us right?

And you know what, it’s fun when you have friends along for the ride.

I also leave voice messages or write journal entries for my-self. Poetry may flow through. Drawings. Images. Many people need that safe space for them to just let it all out and just be.

Let your thoughts flow without fear or judgement. Take a step back. Or sometimes you just need to express some feelings one day then put on some god damn lipstick the next and like Elizabeth Taylor said: pull your-self together gurl!

Did you hear that?

She said PULL your ‘self,’ TOGETHER.

Your multidimensional self — your higher self, your future, past, present, whatever you want to call it, pull it all to-gether stretched from all the cosmos and BE PRESENT in the NOW!

Weave it together with you being the central pulse of the great cosmic web! The center of your own ‘VERSE!

But I digress.

So with all that said.

Ask your-self honestly, the following questions:

Who are the people you go to cry?

Who are the people you go to for emotional support?

Who are your accountability partners?

Who are the ones that call you out on your bullshit or stuff even if you don’t want to hear it anyway?

Who are the ones that celebrate you and say you did great! Keep going! Or I love it when you said this and that!

Who are they?

Majority of people will only say only a handful.

I see the 5 inter-locking hands of friends — arms crossed yet in a circle. Your extended family building a great big cosmic web around you because when you fall. Which you will.

They just rally up together interlocked with one another. Looking up to the sky from where you will fall and say….

Heeeeeyyyyyyyy….. (BOOM you fall! But they caught you!)

Now get back up there again!!!! As they rally you up to the stars!

And like a trampoline. You soar! You jump back up again! You get up!

Oh and some just push you over the edge but they know you gonna’ fly anyway and grow your wings faster.

YIIIPPEEEE!!!

Be kind every-one!

Hugs XO
